Jen + Preston | Superstition Mountain Engagement

Superstition Mountain Engagement

I was pleasantly surprised a few weeks ago when Jen called me. I almost didn’t answer, because I get so many spam phone calls. However, I recently installed an app called True Caller on my phone and it tells me who is calling and if they have been reported as spam {I get called by fake Google at least 3 times a week}. So when I saw a normal persons name popped up I reluctantly answered, hoping it wasn’t a telemarketer. Thank goodness she was a real person!! Cue the hallelujah chorus.

She and Preston live on the West side of town and they wanted to have engagement photos taken at the Goldfield Ghost Town. So they went to their computer, searched for Mesa, Photographer and my name came up!! SWEET, my SEO skills are finally paying off.

After talking with her for a little bit, she decided to book a session. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a hold of the Ghost Town so we decided to do a sunrise Superstition Mountain Engagement session at this museum instead. I love how they turned out and am excited to share this post with you.

Since the evening heat is pretty unbearable in August we decided that early morning would be the best. We wanted to get some photos of the mountain before the sun came up over the mountains, and since I didn’t know exactly when that was we had to get there for first light {which was 5:45am!!}

These Two Were Such Troopers!!

Jen + Preston drove down from Peoria the night before to get a hotel nearby. Our session was sooo early in the morning and the drive from the west side would have been too long. Since it was my first time shooting here, I wanted to arrive extra early and scout out the best spots. It’s fun to shoot at familiar places, but when I shoot somewhere new my creativity really has a chance to come alive.

Since it was my first time meeting the couple, I wanted to take a few minutes to get to know them and explain my process a little bit. I know how intimidating and awkward it feels getting your photos taken, and I want to reassure them that I will take care of all the details they can’t see. I always start with some simple poses and give them a few of my go-to tips for where to place their hands and how to stand, and connect their bodies so they look their best!!

I’ve developed posing techniques and movements that help my couples feel more natural in front of the camera and give them the confidence they need to have fun at the same time. This has totally changed my client experience and I get so many comments from my couples that they love that I give them direction and ideas of what to do.

These two did amazing and followed my direction perfectly. As the session progressed, I could tell they were getting more comfortable and soon they started going rouge with their own posing. Which I highly encourage, by the way. Of course, those turned out to be some of my favorites!!

Jen + Preston:

I hope you guys love these photos as much as I do and remember this incredible sunrise experience. It was so fun getting to know you both, and talking business with you. You guys are such an adorable couple and I am looking forward to Valerie {my associate photographer} photographing your wedding!! It’s going to be the most magical day and we are so glad to be a part of it. These next couple months are going to fly by. Be sure to take it all in and enjoy this time in your lives!!!
