This past weekend I had the privilege and honor of photographing Kristen and Elliot’s Romantic Backyard Wedding. The day could not have been more beautiful. Every detail from the beginning to the end was executed perfectly. Backyard weddings are becoming more popular. Not only is the atmosphere more relaxed, the location means something special to the couple. They decided to use Kristen’s parents backyard. It was a great space for entertaining, complete with bistro lighting, and a real dance floor. Kristen and her parents spent many months dreaming, planning and preparing for how the space would look and function. Ron, Kristen’s dad built an arbor that you’ll see used during the ceremony, and a custom bar where drinks were served at the reception.
The day started off at a hotel nearby where the girls were getting their hair and makeup done. Once they arrived at the house, all the girls got into their dresses and finished prepping for the ceremony. Getting ready and detail photos are some of my most favorite moments from the day. It’s often photos that get overlooked, but really help set the tone for the story of the wedding day. Their marsala, navy and white colors were absolutely beautiful and I loved Kristen’s blue and white star flats!!
Kristen and Elliott decided to uphold tradition and forego a pre-ceremony first look, however Kristen did want to do a first look with her dad. Oh my goodness!! It was one of the best first looks EVER! Kristen had never seen her dad cry until he turned around and saw his gorgeous daughter minutes away from walking down the aisle. I definitely recommend that all brides do a first look with their dads, it’s such a beautiful moment!!
Their bridal party was so much fun as well!! The girls had matching garters and the boys had matching socks, so naturally we had to take some fun photos showing them off. During the boys formal photos they all could not stop laughing. They were having a great time just goofing off, so I went with it and got some great photos!! Along with the gorgeous setting, Kristen and Elliot were surrounded by their closest friends and family. I truly think that this is the most important part to any wedding day. They also knew how to party, which always makes the reception so much more fun. I had some great conversations with the guests and they were all having a great time on the dance floor.
Thank you both so much for trusting me to photograph the most important day of your lives. I truly hope you love these photos and look back at these memories and remember what an amazing day it was. It’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know you both and I’m so excited for your journey to continue as you enter into marriage. I can’t wait to keep in touch and hear what’s new with you both. Always make time to keep dating each other, looking for ways to be romantic and serve one another. I wish you both the best of luck in all you do and love you both!!
