Last Saturday was an amazing day filled with lots of love and laughter. I had the honor of photographing Katrina and Clint’s Wedgewood Lindsay Grove Wedding. This wedding venue, formerly known as Lavender and Old Lace, in recently under new ownership and has undergone beautiful renovations. Exploring a venue that I’ve photographed numerous times, and being pleasantly surprised with so many new additional features, was a dream come true. Some of the new additions include fresh paint on the exterior, dark rich stained doors, new landscaping in the front, and a beautiful updated outdoor courtyard for ceremonies and receptions around the back. They have done an absolutely gorgeous job of sprucing up the place.
I met Katrina at an open house at this venue over a year ago. I knew from the moment we started talking that she was my ideal bride. She was sweet, passionate and outgoing. After the open house, we kept in touch, while they were still deciding on their venue. Over the next several weeks, we began developing a friendship. Her correspondence and kind demeanor solidified my original feelings that she was someone I wanted to work with.
After booking the venue, we decided to meet for coffee and get to know each other better. Right off the bat, after meeting Clint, I just fell in love with this couple. They are both amazing!! Plus, they remind me of my husband and I. Clint is a mechanic, a little shy and introverted and would prefer not to have his picture taken!! My husband Travis, also a mechanic, a total introvert and most DEFINITELY avoids having his picture taken. You would think being married to a photographer he would warm up to the idea, but no such luck.
When I meet a couple for the first time, especially a dream couple like these two, I always leave the meeting feeling a little anxious. I’m filled with many of the same thoughts people have after a first date. “I hope they liked me, I really like them”, “Did I talk about myself too much, or not enough”, “I hope they call me….” All of which went through my mind after leaving our coffee date. To my surprise, less than a week later, I got that amazing text from Katrina. “Clint and I have decided that we would really love to work with you and has you as our photographer!!” Cue the hallelujahs.
It has been the most amazing past year getting to know them better, I can honestly say they feel like we’ve been friends for years. Their engagement session was an absolute blast and it makes me so happy when I hear that the groom actually enjoyed himself and says “hey, it wasn’t so bad”!! After I sent their engagement gallery, Katrina sent me this message ” You did an awesome job, Clint hates pictures of himself and he actually admitted that there were a few that he liked of himself and let me tell you he NEVER says that!!” What an amazing compliment, I must being doing something right!! You can check out their San Tan Mountain Engagement to see more of this gorgeous couple!
Katrina and Clint decided not to have a traditional bridal party. It was actually a great change of pace! The day was much more relaxed. Bridal parties are definitely fun, but there is an added level of chaos when you have to wrangle a bridal party and keep everyone on task and focused. They did decide to do a first look, which oh my goodness, is seriously one of the most beautiful first looks I’ve photographed! I loved Katrina’s gown, Clint’s classic black and white tux, and the dark stained doors were such a beautiful contrast to the light venue exterior.
Words cannot even begin to express how honored I feel to have been a part of your special day! You are such a sweet couple, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. I was joking with Travis that we should get dinner with you guys and become best friends. Although, I’m kinda serious!! The three of us already get along great, and Travis and Clint would totally hit it off. I wish you guys nothing but the very best and cannot wait to keep in touch. This day marks the beginning of your forever, and it’s my hope that as you look back on these photos, they will perfectly tell the story of your day and help you relive each and every beautiful moment. Love you guys!
